What Does Jillian Michaels Take?

Who Is She?

Jillian Michaels is basically Wonder Woman. She is a personal trainer, business woman, author, and television personality, and somehow she manages to remain insanely strong, healthy, and fit. Did we mention that she’s 42 years old, a wife to Heidi Rhoades, and the mother of two beautiful children, one of whom she adopted from Haiti? She may have her plate full, but knows how to take care of herself, that’s for sure.

Jillian Michaels is most well known for her role in the reality TV show The Biggest Loser. Michaels was the original trainer on the television show when it first aired in 2004. She was a frequent face on the show up until 2014 when she announced she was finished with the series. The show helped Michaels gain recognition for her tenacity, hard work, dedication, and love for all things fitness. Michaels also started a spin off to The Biggest Loser called Losing It With Jillian. The reality TV show aired in 2010 and focused on Jillian visiting the homes and work places of people needing fitness and wellness in their lives. Jillian has also written books, released weight loss programs and DVDs, owns an activewear clothing line, supports multiple charities, and so much more.

Jillian has a full day, every day. It comes as no surprise that she cares a great deal about the supplements she takes on a daily basis. By taking supplements Michaels can loosen up a little about what her body needs and craves. She lets the supplements do the work by filling in any dietary gaps. Michaels leads an an active lifestyle, which means her body is working harder than most and depleting her vitamin and nutrient levels. This is why her supplements are so important! We dug around and found the supplements that Jillian Michaels swears by to keep her happy, healthy, and strong!

The Supplements…

Multivitamin:

Multivitamins are so important for all of us — not just people like Jillian Michaels who never sit down! Everyone could use a multivitamin because none of us can afford to have any deficiencies in our bodies. Jillian Michaels can’t afford to get sick with the lifestyle she has plus it just means one less thing to worry about. Multivitamins allow us to easily fill in any gaps and keep our energy levels high, with just one pill, once a day. They are especially important for those who lead active lifestyles because when our bodies are exercising or keeping busy they are depleted of their essential vitamins and nutrients much more quickly.

A proper multivitamin includes a wide and complex array of vital nutrients. Vitamin deficiencies are a serious matter and taking a multivitamin will ensure that there are no gaps in your diet so that you have a smooth pathway for your health and fitness goals. Multivitamins should be taken in the morning with your breakfast so that you can start your day off right.

Multivitamin benefits include:

  • Avoiding vitamin and mineral deficiencies
  • Increasing energy levels

Probiotics:

Probiotics are supplements that we tend to overlook. However, they are kind of miracle workers! Probiotics are the “good” bacteria that live in your gut and keep your health and wellness in check. When you’re in a healthy place physically, your intestinal tract houses well over 100 trillion of this “good” bacteria. These probiotics have a long list of health benefits that no one wants to miss out on. Jillian Michaels gets this concept.

However, no matter how strong your natural internal probiotics may be, they are often not enough. Poor diet, pollution, stress, and an overuse of antibiotics can all contribute to wiping out these probiotics. This is where supplements come into play! A daily dose of probiotic supplements can help strengthen and repopulate your gut with necessary “good” bacteria.

Probiotics benefits include:

  • Aiding in digestion
  • Boosting immune system levels
  • Consuming bad bacteria
  • Creating key nutrients
  • Restricting growth of yeast and unhealthy bacteria
  • Limiting bouts of lactose intolerance, poor digestion, and diarrhea

Vitamin D:

Vitamin D is possibly the holy grail of vitamins. Vitamin D is technically a pre-hormone, not a vitamin. Regardless, it’s necessary. Vitamin D is involved in just about all of our functions. The vitamin creates hundreds of disease preventing proteins and enzymes and it affects more than 2,000 genes throughout the body. It also enriches muscle strength, builds bones, provides anti-inflammatory effects, provides anti-cancer effects, strengthens the immune system, and increases overall happiness and well being.

An estimated 85% of people are vitamin D deficient. Most of these people could go their whole lives without knowing this. Jillian Michaels knows better though! It is basically impossible for your body to get all of the vitamin D it needs through diet alone. The most obvious way to increase your vitamin D intake is from sun exposure but this can be difficult to manage at times, which is where supplements come into play.

Vitamin D3 benefits include:

  • Promoting healthy and stronger bones
  • Boosts immune system levels
  • Increase mood levels
  • Improving muscle function
  • Protecting against cardiovascular disease
  • Decreasing risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Reducing risk of cancer
  • Fighting depression
  • Boosting weight loss

Omega 3 Fatty Acids:

Omega 3 Fatty Acids are fats that should be taken, not avoided. Jillian Michaels definitely doesn’t cut back on these fats. Two crucial fatty acids are EPA and DHA which are both primarily found in fish. ALA is another fatty acid that is found in plant sources such as seeds and nuts. Our bodies need Omega 3 Fatty Acids to function as well as provide us with unbelievable health benefits!

For people who eat a good amount of seafood, it may not be necessary to take Omega 3 Fatty Acid supplements. However, most people don’t get enough of this vitamin in their diet and that’s where supplements become helpful!

Omega 3 Fatty Acid benefits include…

  • Improving bone and joint health
  • Fighting inflammation
  • Fighting depression and anxiety
  • Improving eye health
  • Promoting brain health
  • Promoting health and wellness during pregnancy
  • Improving heart disease prevention
  • Reducing symptoms of metabolic syndrome
  • Preventing against autoimmune diseases
  • Improving mental disorders
  • Fighting against age related diseases and age related mental decline
  • Working against preventing cancer
  • Reducing fat in the liver
  • Alleviating menstrual pains
  • Improving sleep
  • Drastically improves health of skin

Magnesium & Calcium:

Magnesium is an extremely powerful vitamin. It helps control hundreds of chemical reactions within the body. Research has shown that as many as 80% of people are magnesium deficient so it’s probably best to follow Jillian’s lead and start taking magnesium supplements. As with other vitamins, even if you live a healthy lifestyle, eat clean, reduce stress, reduce alcohol intake, and reduce specific drug intakes, your body can be depleted of magnesium. Supplementing with magnesium can lead to a well rounded path of health and wellness.

Calcium is the most important nutrient when it comes to bone health. It’s essential! Building strong bones is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Bones are living tissue and are constantly on a roller coaster, where calcium deposits and withdrawals happen daily. Bones aren’t something you want to mess around with. You only get one set and they need to be constantly cared for or they will become brittle and break. When your diet is lacking calcium, your body will take calcium from your bones to keep blood calcium at normal and healthy levels. This is why calcium supplements are so important!

While calcium and magnesium can be taken separately, when taken together they maximize the vitamins potentials. This occurs because magnesium helps the body absorb calcium.

Magnesium benefits include:

  • Regulating blood pressure
  • Strengthening muscles and bones
  • Keeping immune system levels high and strong
  • Supporting cardiac function
  • Supporting brain function

Calcium benefits include…

  • Promoting strong bones
  • Increase heart health
  • Increasing metabolism
  • Providing relief from PMS symptoms
  • Fighting against cancer
